Computers & Internet

We have 8 computers for public use and 2 computers for searching the catalog. You can access the Internet using one of our computers or signing into our free public WiFi. 

Using One of Our Computers

Our computers are free to use but they require a login. You can either log in using your library card number or by getting a guest pass from the circulation desk. Our computers can be used for 1 hour at a time and your time can be renewed based on demand.

Library cards can be used as logins twice per day. Guest passes can only be used as logins once before expiring.

Accessing the WiFi on your Windows laptop

  1. Click the WiFi signal on the bottom left of your screen. It should look like a dot with a few curved lines beaming out of it.
  2. A list of networks should pop up. Click the one named “Moon Library”.
  3. A webpage should open up with a “Log In” button. Click the button.
    • If a page doesn’t open automatically, open your web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Internet Explorer). A web page with Library WiFi at the top should appear.
  4. A web page saying “Web Authentication: Log In Successful” will show up.
  5. You are now using our WiFi. Enjoy!

Accessing the WiFi on your Apple laptop

  1. Look at the top of the screen and click the WiFi icon. It should look like a dot with a few curved lines beaming out of it.
  2. Select “Connect to WiFi Network”.
  3. A list of networks should pop up. Click the one named “Moon Library”.
  4. A pop-up will appear which says “Log-in Required.” Click “OK.”
  5. A webpage should open up with a “Log In” button. Click the button.
    • If a page doesn’t open automatically, open  your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari). A web page with Library WiFi at the top should appear.
  6. A web page saying “Web Authentication: Log In Successful” will show up.
  7. You are now using our WiFi. Enjoy!

Accessing the WiFi on your Android

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the WiFi icon. It should look like a dot with a few curved lines beaming out of it.
  2. A list of networks should pop up. Tap the one named “Moon Library”.
  3. Tap”Connect”.
  4. A webpage should open up with a “Log In” button. Click the button.
    • If a page doesn’t open automatically, open Chrome. A web page with Library WiFi at the top should appear.
  5. A web page saying “Web Authentication: Log In Successful” will show up.
  6. You are now using our WiFi. Enjoy!

Accessing the WiFi on your iPhone

  1. Click the Settings icon shaped like a gear.
  2. Select “Connect to WiFi Network”
  3. A list of networks should pop up. Tap the one named “Moon Library”.
  4. A pop-up will appear which says “Log-in Required.” Tap “OK.”
  5. A webpage should open up with a “Log In” button. Click the button.
    • If a page doesn’t open automatically, open Safari. A web page with Library WiFi at the top should appear.

Accessing the WiFi on a tablet or e-reader

Note: These directions vary slightly by device. Talk to a librarian if you need help.

Printing, Copying, Scanning, & Faxing

We offer printing, copying, scanning, and fax services to our patrons. We do not receive faxes for patrons, we only send them. Our fax number is 412-269-0136.

Craft Room

Our craft room is open after weekly storytimes and during special events. Want to get creative? Visit us for a program and make some cool crafts with us!

A wheelchair accessible/family friendly restroom is located just inside the Craft Room for public use.

Note: All materials are property of Moon Township Public Library and are to be used by staff when the craft room is open.

Storytime Room

6/2/23 Update: Children’s programs are being held in the Sky Room or Craft Room until construction in the Storytime Room completes.

The Storytime Room is our Children’s Department’s events space. We hold our Toddler Storytime and Preschool Storytime in this room and provide toys for kids to enjoy.

Tutoring Room

The Tutoring Room is a quiet space for students of all ages. Visitors can study alone, learn with their tutors, or work on a group project in privacy. The Tutoring Room is first-come, first-served room and cannot be reserved ahead of time.

Sky Room

The Sky Room is a top floor space used for storytimes, discussion groups, crafts, classes, and presentations. Recurring Sky Room events include Great Decisions, Mother Goose on the Loose, the Knitting Club, the Lyme Disease Support Group, and the Mahjong Group. The Library Board of Trustees subscribes to Article VI of the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights which states that facilities shall be made available to the public served by the given library on an equitable basis, regardless of the beliefs or affiliations of individuals or groups requesting their use.

Granting permission for use of the Sky Room does not in any way constitute an endorsement of the group’s policies or beliefs by Moon Township Public Library.

Availability

  • The Sky Room’s maximum capacity is 64 people.
  • The room is available for use during library hours.
  • Moon Township Public Library and other Moon Township municipal groups have priority over groups who wish to rent the Sky Room.
  • Renting is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Reservations are accepted no sooner than 1 year in advance. Organizations may not rent the room more than one time per month in a year.

How to Rent

  • Contact Director Heather Panella by email or by calling 412-269-0334 to submit your request.
  • Pay the $50 damage, security, and cleanup deposit. The room will be inspected by a library employee before and after its rental.
  • Rental is $25 per hour. The security deposit and rent must be paid at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Clean up the room and replace any furniture you moved to their original positions.
  • Any damage or irregularities to the room will be noted and deductions from the deposit will be taken as necessary. Moon Township Public Library will refund deposits within 30 days of use if the room is left in acceptable condition.

Rules

  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.
  • Moon Township Public Library does not provide equipment, supplies, storage, or publicity for rented events.
  • Direct selling of any kind is prohibited, unless it is sanctioned as part of a program sponsored by the library, the Library Board, or the Friends of the Library.
  • Under no circumstances shall the sponsor of a meeting open to the public require sign-in of attendees nor should any follow-up contact be made at the sponsor’s initiation.
  • Youth groups may use the room only if they are accompanied by an adult supervisor of the group (21 years or older) who assumes full responsibility for supervision of the group for the entire time they use the Sky Room.
  • Any group using the room that brings children to the meeting may not leave the children unsupervised in other areas of the library. See Moon Township Public Library’s Unattended Children Policy.
  • Library staff must have access to the room at all times.
  • The Library Board and the library director reserve the right to cancel a reservation at any time and for any reason.
  • Any group or individual violating these rules may be asked to leave and/or denied future use of the facilities.

Seed Library

Grow your own fruit, herbs, vegetables, and more by getting free seeds from our Seed Library.

  • Look through our Seed Catalog to see which seeds we currently have available.
  • Complete our online order form to request seeds, then pick them up at the first desk or through no-contact pickup.
  • The seeds come in miniature envelopes with quick-and-dirty planting guides. Each packet contains enough seeds to grow one plant.
  • Once your plants mature, harvest and donate those seeds to the library.

Disability & Accessibility

Our library is wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant. The front door automatically opens when you press the blue wheelchair button. The main floor is accessible by a ramp and the Sky Room can be reached using the elevator behind the stairs. All of our bathrooms have a wheelchair accessible stall. Our staff is available for any assistance you require.

3D Printing

Our 3D printer is available for public use.

  • Complete an order form online, in person, or by printing your own. After you submit your form, a staff member will contact you about pricing, projected completion date, and, if applicable, a selection of designs to choose from.
  • Prints cost $2-3 per hour, rounded up to the nearest half hour, plus tax. You may be charged a $5-8 restock fee if the filament color you desire is out of stock.
  • You are charged upon receipt of the item.
  • Prints are typically done in 3-5 business days, but may take longer due to complexity, size, or quality.
  • You must pick up your print within 3 business days. After that time has elapsed, your account will be charged for the print and may be sent to collections.
  • All prints are sold as-is and are non-refundable.
  • MTPL has the right to refuse prints for any reason. We will not print any sexually explicit material, counterfeit items, or any weapons, functional or non-functional. In other words, if TSA won’t let your toy weapon on the plane, we cannot print it.
