Streaming in a Quarantine: Nicole’s Lighthearted Picks!

Hey all! Nicole here reporting from my home office (AKA the couch). Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. While most of us are spending our days indoors, I thought I would type out some of my favorite streaming video! Hopefully some of you will find a new (or old) series to enjoy. The focus here is on all things lighthearted! In this article I’ll be touching on some popular and not-so-popular picks. Steeped in comedy and feel-good delight, here is my personal list of streaming favorites!

*Note: Most of these are grownup shows! Use your discretion!

For those who need a dose of cute…

  • Kitten Rescuers (Netflix)

This feel-good reality show follows animal professionals in the pursuit of saving cute little kittens. An awesome show to watch when you’re feeling down! Rated TV-14.

For a cozy night in…

  • The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)

One of my all-time favorite shows! This show is comic, creative, and just all around cozy. Watch competitors race to win themed baking challenges! Rated TV-14.

For wild, niche humor…

  • The IT Crowd (Netflix)

This has got to be one of my favorite off-kilter sitcoms, and one of the top shows I put on for comfort. Join social outcasts Moss and Roy in their oft-forgotten IT department. Daily tasks turn odd and mundane life goes just a bit wonky! Let the wackiness ensue! Rated TV-MA.

For wacky, light-hearted laughs…

  • Schitt’s Creek (Netflix)

One of my laugh-out loud favorites! The Rose family has lost their fortune and must retreat to a podunk town to live. This show focuses on the entire loony town and their citizens, and you fall in love with them all along the way. Rated TV-MA.

For a creative break from this madness…

  • Interior Design Masters (Netflix)

Do you like HGTV and design? This colorful competition show pits interior designers against one another for the ultimate prize! Watch if you like unique challenges, design, and pops of color! Rated TV-PG.

  • Next in Fashion (Netflix)

Do you like shopping or fashion? Join Tan France and Alexa Chung in an epic fashion competition! Designers from around the world come together to compete in themed challenges and runway shows! Rated TV-14.

For the Disney freaks (like me)…

  • One Day at Disney (Disney+)

Family Friendly! This documentary visits several Disney employees and explores their jobs! Get ready to learn about jobs you didn’t even know existed! This documentary is only about an hour long, but highly entertaining and smile-worthy! Great for the family!

An oldie but a goodie…

  • Frasier (Hulu & CBS All Access)

Join Frasier Crane on his daily adventures. His story features his kooky family and coworkers, and it is a delight to watch! Rated TV-PG.

For those looking to learn AND laugh…

  • The World According to Jeff Goldblum (Disney+)

Curious Pittsburgh native Jeff Goldblum takes viewers on adventures in learning. This show is extremely quirky and interesting, covering all sorts of topics in our culture! Rated TV-PG.

For those happy tears…

  • Queer Eye (Netflix)

Looking for an inspirational show? Wanna happy cry? Want to have faith in humanity once more? This show will provide that and even more! The Fab Five visit some very deserving people in need to makeover their lives! Rated TV-14.

For laugh-out-loud (slightly crude) fun…

  • Grace and Frankie (Netflix)

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin star in this comic show about life’s twists and turns. When Grace and Frankie’s husbands leave them (for each other), these women move-in together and get into all sorts of hilarious trouble. Rated TV-MA.

BONUS! An all-around fun movie:

  • Swiss Family Robinson (Disney+)

One of my personal favorite films! It’s got a bit of everything in it, and its transports you to a completely different time and place. All with that classic Disney charm! Rated G.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Parks and Recreation (Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime)
  • New Girl (Netflix)
  • The Office (Netflix)
  • The Marvelous Miss Maisel (Amazon Prime)
  • Bill Nye Saves the World (Netflix)
